MICHAEL PETTIT PAINTINGS: MICHAEL PETTIT is a professional artist living in Cape Town, South Africa. He has exhibited widely over many years and received extensive recognition. Numerous public, university, corporate feature his distinctive pictures. His work is also in private collections worldwide. His academic background provides an intellectual backbone to paintings that are rich in visual and cultural references. Pettit's ambitiously broad range of content and imagery is supported by technical skill and stylistic knowledge. The diversity of his work is part of its total meaning. In his stride and immersed in his subject, Pettit is continually exploring new terrain. With each new painting, core themes are deepened, and recurring images, motifs, signs and symbols are transformed and renewed. These recurring elements echo between pictures; they integrate a complex body of work. Evident in the span of his work, for example, is a balancing of opposites such as dark / light , male / female , order / chaos. Pettit's work is enriched by paradox. It evades neat categorization.
